Grammys 2019 WINNERS – Kacey Musgraves, Childish Gambino win big | Music | Entertainment


Musgraves’ hit record Golden Hour scooped the Album of the Year gong, while Childish Gambino’s This Is America was name Record of the Year. British sensation Dua Lipa was dubbed Best New Artist, while This Is America was also victorious in Song of the Year. Lady Gaga won three prizes: Pop Solo Performance for Joanne (Where Do You Think You’re Goin’?), Song Written for Visual Media alongside Bradley Cooper for Shallow, and Pop Duo/Group Performance for the same track.

Even The Greatest Showman was Grammy Award-winning: it picked up the prize for Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

Black Panther was a big winner too; taking Score Soundtrack for Visual Media.

In an exceptional night for country star Musgraves, she also walked home with Country Song for Space Cowboy, and Country Solo Performance for Butterflies.

Golden Hour also won Country Album.

Collecting the huge Album of the Year honour, she told her fellow nominees: “Winning this doesn’t make my album any better than anyone else’s.”

Ariana Grande had a good night, despite hitting out at Grammys bosses in a series of tweets late last week.

She won Best Pop Vocal Album for her 2018 opus Sweetener.

Cardi B won Best Rap Album for Invasion of Privacy, while Drake took Rap Song for God’s Plan and H.E.R.’s self-titled record won Best R&B Album.

In the rock fields, Greta Van Fleet’s From The Fires took Rock Album, St Vincent’s Masseduction won Rock Song and High on Fire’s Electric Messiah won Metal Performance.

The 61st Annual Grammy Awards were hosted by Alicia Keys and held at the Los Angeles’ STAPLES Center, also featuring an array of performances.

Janelle Monae, Shawn Mendes and Miley Cyrus, Cardi B, Diana Ross, Brandi Carlile and Chloe x Halle were among those who took to the stage.

There was also a Motown tribute courtesy of Jennifer Lopez, Smokey Robinson, Ne-Yo and Alicia Keys.
