Royal news: Prince William and Prince Harry clash sparks Duke of Edinburgh to intervene | Royal | News

It was announced on Thursday that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will maintain a separate staff to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The former will remain in Kensington Palace, whilst the latter will move into Buckingham Palace. However Prince William was apparently concerned about whether his brother would have enough support, so turned to his grandfather for advice.

According to the Daily Mail he phoned Prince Philip several weeks ago seeking his “wise counsel”.

It is unknown what advice Prince Philip, who has lived in Buckingham Palace for much of his adult life, gave his grandson.

William may also have worried the move would fuel rumours of a rift between the Cambridge and Sussex households.

These surfaced after it was revealed Harry and Meghan would not be joining William and Kate to live in Kensington Palace, as was originally planned, but would instead move into a cottage on The Queen’s Sandringham estate.

There were also several reports of clashes between Kate and Meghan, including over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid outfit for last May’s Royal wedding and the treatment of staff.

The new arrangements were reportedly decided on to help prepare for Prince William’s future role as the Prince of Wales, and later King.

Both The Queen and Prince Charles are said to have been in favour of the move.

Speaking to the Daily Mail a source said: “It’s about placing the two dukes on a permanent footing that ensures changes aren’t needed again”.

Meghan and Harry have also employed a new chief spokeswomen, Sara Latham.

Ms Latham is close to the Clintons, having advised Hillary’s 2016 US Presidential campaign and worked for Bill when he was President in the late 1990s.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have indicated they will remain based at Kensington Palace when William becomes Prince of Wales, rather than moving into Clarence House.

Currently Clarence House is occupied by Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall.
